Wednesday Nights – Bamidbar, The Book of Numbers.
It has been said that Judaism does not need Christianity to explain its existence, but Christianity needs Judaism both to explain its existence and what it believes. Therefore, Christianity has also been termed historically as the Judeo-Christian faith.
.
We at The Well believe we are being led by the Spirit of God into studying the roots of our Christian faith and invariably our search for Truth has brought us to a common point which is the Jewish beginnings of Christianity.
.
To truly have the right interpretation of the Word, is to return to the culture and scriptures of the Jews. To truly understand God from where He has intended for Himself to be revealed and made known, from the Torah and the Jewish culture which had evolved around the Torah and their life in God.
.
The truth is that Judaism was reformed and reshaped, not removed, but made complete in Jesus the Messiah.

“The Book of Numbers (Bamidbar) details how the tribes of Israel were counted and meticulously arranged into military camp formation around the Mishkan (tabernacle). Led by the Shechinah cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, at first they were en route to the Promised Land which the LORD swore to give to Abraham and his descendants forever. However, the people rebelled and were condemned to wander for 40 years in the desert.” – John Parsons

In the photograph, these modern-day Bedouins are camped where the wilderness meets farm country, just as the Israelites did centuries ago. The story in the book of Numbers is timeless. It not only describes the graphic experiences which took place thousands of years ago, but it describes us…here and now. With just a little imagination “their story” can easily become “our story” of faith as well.

In this series, Dr. Rik Wadge examines the fourth book of the Torah, Bamidbar. In addition to scripture, Dr. Wadge utilizes the teachings from the oral Torah as well as Rabbinical teachings to provide a unique, yet valuable evaluation of Numbers. Join us on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm for this study through the book of Numbers.
